TGIF (2): A Book Blogger is Born

TGIF at GReads is weekly event hosted by Ginger from GReads.  The features allows us to recap the weeks posts and to answer a book-related question proposed by Ginger.  This week’s question is:

What made you start your very own book blog?

Well, I am pretty new to the  book blogging community.  I started this blog just a few months ago, back in March 2012.  I had been following a number of blogs for children’s librarians.  I’m a children’s librarian, in case you were wondering.  Somehow in all the children’s librarian blogs I followed, I stumbled onto book blogs, particularly on teen book blogs.  I fell in love!

I have always loved to read , and I had often read children’s and teen books.  I order all the children’s materials at the library I work at, so I am always reading professional reviews on children’s books that would grab my attention.  There are a number of teens (middle schoolers, actually) who read like crazy at my library!  I mean they put the term avid reader to shame.  And they would tell me about the books they read, and always ask for more recommendations.  So I would read more teen books.  The more teen books I would read, the more I would want to read.  Unfortunately, no one I know reads them or enjoys them as much as I do.

As I began to read more book blogs, I realized how much I would love to have a place to share my feelings on all the (mostly teen) books I had been reading.  It gives me a way to express my feelings on all the books I read.  It did take me a little time to build up my confidence to actually start one, though.  I am a pretty shy person, but expressing myself online is not as hard as in person.

So I finally started Quinn’s Book Nook.  It isn’t my favorite blog name, but the one I really wanted was already taken.  I have really been liking blogging, though!  I love all the memes (like this one!) but I also love trying to express my feelings for the books I’ve been reading.

That’s an interesting back-story! I really love reading librarian blogs (I’m not one) for some reason, and seeing what you/ they are reading.

Aw, I love your blog’s name! I think it’s very cute 🙂 It’s funny to me that as I’ve read more of the responses to today’s meme that everyone has made some comment about their love of YA books being a “secret.” I mean, I’m the same way – only one of my friends even knows about my own blog – but I love that after discovering the book blogging community, I’m FAR from alone in my love of teen and YA lit! Glad you decided to start a blog and keep up the good work! 🙂

I’m glad you like my blog name. I haven’t told my friends about my blog, either. I am actually not really embarrassed about all the teen books I read, but for some reason, I am really nervous about my friends and family reading my blog. It doesn’t make a lot of sense. It is soooooo great to see other people who love teen YA lit, though!!!!!!!

I like your story! My blog is personal, but as a librarian, I will admit that I find out about a lot of the books that I order for my library’s collection from book bloggers. Being able to read what bloggers think about books definitely adds something extra to what I read about in Booklist, and my other sources. 🙂 I’m glad you started your blog, and I’m looking forward to reading more here!
