2015 Reading & Blogging Challenges

I’m sort of shocked that today is the first day of 2015.  It’s crazy how quickly time flies by when you get older.  2014 was not the best year for me, and I’m determined to have  a better year in 2015.  And with that thought, I was feeling like participating in some reading challenges.  I really haven’t signed up for reading challenges before, but I am feeling like a challenge for 2015.  Here are the challenges I am signing up for:

2015 Audiobook Challenge

2015 audiobook challenge

I’m such a huge audiobook fan, so when I heard about this one just a few weeks ago, I knew immediately that I was going to sign up.  This challenge is hosted by The Book Nympho and Hot Listens.

Reading Challenge Details:

  • Runs January 1, 2015 – December 31, 2015. You can join at anytime.
  • The goal is to find a new love for audios or to outdo yourself by listening to more audios in 2015 than you did in 2014.
  • Books must be in audio format (CD, MP3, etc.)
  • ANY genres count.
  • Re-reads and crossovers from other reading challenges are allowed.
  • You do not have to be a book blogger to participate; you can track your progress on Goodreads, Shelfari, Booklikes, Facebook, LibraryThing, etc. – I’ve created a Goodreads Group for the challenge, feel free to join.
  • If you’re a blogger grab the button (on the sidebar) and do a quick post about the challenge to help spread the word. If you’re not a blogger you can help by posting on Facebook or Tweeting about the challenge.

By request, a new level (Marathoner) has been added this year for the hardcore listeners and the numbers for My Precious has been changed from 30+ to 30-50.

Levels:

  • Newbie (I’ll give it a try) 1-5
  • Weekend Warrior (I’m getting the hang of this) 5-10
  • Stenographer (can listen while multi-tasking) 10-15
  • Socially Awkward (Don’t talk to me) 15-20
  • Binge Listener (Why read when someone can do it for you) 20-30
  • My Precious (I had my earbuds surgically implanted) 30-50
  • Marathoner (Look Ma no hands) 50+

We’ve decided to go back to having quarterly updates to help keep everyone motivated and to snag new participants through out the year. There will be posts on the following dates for you guys to check in to let us know how your listening is going for 2015.

Update Schedule:

  • March 27th: 1st Quarter Update
  • June 19th: 2nd Quarter Update – Giveaway included
  • September 25th: 3rd Quarter Update
  • December 18th: 4th Quarter Update and Wrap – Giveaway included

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I managed to listen to 50 audiobooks in 2014, which I think is totally awesome.  I am going to keep the same goal for 2015, and am aiming for the My Precious Level.  But, if I listen to more, hey that will leave me super happy.
The Re-Read Challenge 2015
Re-Read Challenge 2015
This awesome challenge is hosted by Belle of the Literati and Hannah from So Obsessed With.  I love re-reading, but I really just haven’t made time the last few years.  Hopefully this challenge will get me into the re-reading groove.
The Re-Read Challenge Details
1. This challenge will run from January 1, 2015 – December 31, 2015. The sign-up linky will remain open until the end of January, but you can join at any time by adding your intro post to any monthly re-read recap linky.
2. Any genre, length or format of book counts, as long as it’s a re-read.
3. We will have two giveaways – one at the six-month point and one at the end of the year. Giveaway details posted closer to the halfway point!
4. You don’t have to follow our blogs to participate or be entered in the giveaways.
How You Sign Up
1. Write a post about joining The 2015 Re-Read Challenge on your blog. In the post, include the banner, a link back to our sign-up page, the number of books you’d like to re-read and list some books you’re hoping to re-read for the challenge.
2. Add the direct link to your sign-up post in the linky below.
3. Optional: Put the challenge button in your sidebar (grab link available at the bottom of the post).
4. DONE. It’s as easy as that to get started.
How You Participate
1. Re-read some books!
2. In the first week of each month, we will post a re-read recap on Belle of the Literati and So Obsessed With that includes a linky that will be open all month. Write a post detailing what you re-read the last month, and add the direct link to our linky to be entered in our giveaways.
3. If you write any re-read reviews (it’s totally optional!), add those to the monthly linky for additional entries (one per post) in our giveways.
4. If you miss a monthly post, just link up your reviews and/or recap in the linky during the next month.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Did I mention that I love re-reading books?  Because, seriously, I do.  But, as happens with so many bloggers, I don’t seem to make a lot of time for re-reading since I started blogging close to 3 years ago.  But I am making time, my friends, in 2015!
I’m not sure how many books exactly that I want to re-read but I’m thinking between 12-15.  That’s roughly 1 book a month.  The majority of books that I am wanting to re-read are actually books that I read pre-blogging days, so I can still write reviews for those books.
Some of the books I’m thinking of re-reading are Julie Garwood’s historical romances.  Not every single one, but perhaps Saving Grace, Ransom, Castles, The Bride and The Wedding.  And maybe some of Lori Foster’s contemporary romances.  Oh, and maybe the Julia Quinn’s Bridgertons series.  But I am a mood reader, so these books could change easily.

The Book Blogger Organization Challenge

book blogger organization challenge
This is the challenge that I’m the most unsure about whether or not I will follow through with.  I totally want to, and I love that Brittany from The Book Addict’s Guide put this challenge together, because I am ALL about getting organized all the time.  But, you know how these things can be pushed to the side.  But I am going to try my hardest to participate in this every month.
Challenge “Rules” And Guidelines
Brittany says “I put rules in quotes because really, there are no “rules” to follow. This is titled as a challenge, but it’s more of a way to consistently keep organized. The guidelines are simply this: follow the month’s theme and work on what you can. Not everyone will need each bullet point. Some people will think of more things to add under the theme. (Leave a comment if you think of some so I can update the post!) Work on anything related within the given month. There is no “failing” in this challenge. If you’ve done anything to work on your blog, you’re a success!”
  • The Blog Organization Challenge will run from January 1st to June 30th. If all goes well, we’ll start all over in July (blog maintenance is constant!) and even add more things to work on because I know I won’t think of everything as we go along.
  • Participants can join in at any time! It’s never too late to join. I have a linky for sign-ups below (no sign-up post is required but feel free to spread the word that you’re joining in!) and do whatever you can each month. Everyone is bound to have a busier day/week/month so just do what you can when you can! And don’t forget to grab the button!
  • Feel free to make your own “mini-challenges”! I won’t be officially hosting any mini-challenges but if you have a discussion, how-to, or mini-challenge (past, present, or future), send me the link and I’ll include it in appropriate month’s post!
  • Want to chat about it on social media? Use the hashtag #BlogOrganization! Find a buddy, grab some ideas, get motivation, ask questions… Sky’s the limit!

Brittany has a lot more information on her Intro post, so be sure to check that out (linked above).  Brittany has already put out the January Goals.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Okay, so these are the challenges I am signing up for this year.  I’m really excited about these, and I cannot wait to get started.  And, of course, I will be participating in the Goodreads Reading Challenge, but that is a little different, so I didn’t include it here.  What challenges are you participating in?
    Happy New Year Quinn! I hope you meet all your goals in 2015..been a really up and done year for me as well!
  2. Candice @ The Grown-Up YA
    Quinn, I hope your 2015 is wonderful! Looks like you’re going to be busy with some challenges here! Good luck to you! I’m participating in both the Re-Read Challenge and the Organization Challenge too so we’ll have to cheer each other on! 🙂
  3. Lucy
    Happy New Year, Quinn! You rocked the audiobooks last year- yay! I’m joining you in the audiobook challenge and the book blogger organization challenge. I love re-reading too and just do it when inspiration strikes- glad there’s a re-reading challenge. Have fun reaching your goals this year 🙂
  4. Camille @ Girl meets Books
    Happy New Year, Quinn! And good luck with all these amazing challenges. I’ve only ever listened to historical romance audiobooks and only because they were prizes I won or purchases I had with my Audible account. But wow, 50 in total for a year, that’s pretty impressive. Have fun listening to audiobooks again this year. I was supposed to join the re-reading challenge but then I reviewed my TBR list and also the fact that I might be moving to another country next year for school made it pretty daunting to add re-reads to my reading plans. Although I think I’ll definitely be re-reading some of my favorites, I didn’t want to make it a challenge at this time. The Book Blogger Organization Challenge is such a fantastic idea. I’m not formally participating in the challenge but I am going to follow the updates and maybe do some of the monthly challenges for myself. Good luck again and happy new year! 🙂
  5. Charlene @ Bookish Whimsy
    Wow, so many great challenges! The re-reads one is very tempting, because as you say, it’s so hard for bloggers to re-read books! I don’t know if I should try it though since I still want to get a move on my classics challenge. Good luck with your challenges this year! Happy New Year!
  6. Danielle @ Love at First Page
    Good luck with all of your challenges!!! I know I *should* participate in the re-read challenge, but I’m still mulling that one over. I’m afraid I wouldn’t really commit to it since there’s always so many books I have yet to read.
  7. Jeann @ Happy Indulgence
    Happy New Year Quinn! I hope 2015 is a better year for you overall. I was checking out the Blog Organisation challenge and it features some great things to get organised! Good luck on these ones!
  8. Natasha
