SHE KNOWS BETTER THAN TO SAY “I DO”
After a humiliating end to her engagement, investment banker Sidney Sinclair is done with commitment-phobic men. But when her sister winds up engaged after a whirlwind courtship, she’s thrown in to close contact with exactly the kind of sexy playboy she wants to avoid—the gorgeous best man. She’s stuck with him, for better or worse, until her sister walks down the aisle, but that doesn’t mean she has to give in to his smooth advances, no matter how tempting they are…
BUT HE MAKES IT HARD TO SAY “I DON’T”
Special Agent Vaughn Roberts always gets his man on the job and his woman in bed. So Sidney’s refusal to fall for his charms only makes him more determined to win over the cool and confident redhead. Only what starts out as a battle of wills ends up as a serious play for her heart. Because the one woman who refuses to be caught may be the only one Vaughn can’t live without…

You know what is awesome? Discovering a new author that you fall in love with. It Happened One Wedding by Julie James is the first book I’ve read by this author, and I loved it so much, that I immediately read three other books by her back to back, which is not something I do. I like this switch things up.

So, It Happened One Wedding is about investment banker Sidney and FBI Special Agent Vaughn Roberts. Sidney and Vaughn do not get off to a great start (hate to love romances are so much fun, right?). They meet at a coffee shop. Vaughn comes on to Sidney, and Sidney basically puts Vaughn, who is quite confident in his flattering-the-ladies abilities, in his place. It’s amazing, and awesome, because I love seeing smart women like Sidney not being afraid to call Vaughn on his bullshit. But the encounter does leave them both a little shaken. To their surprise, they discover they will be seeing a lot more of each other because Vaughn’s brother and Sidney’s sister are getting married!

After some grumbling, Sidney and Vaughn to become friends (and then some!). Obviously they are attracted to each other, but Vaughn isn’t looking for lasting relationships, and that is exactly what Sidney wants and is looking for. Sidney starts asking Vaughn for advice on these dates she goes on, and it’s hilarious! So hilarious and wonderful, and it shows how Sidney and Vaughn keep getting closer and closer.

Something else that I just thought was so adorable was how Vaughn, after he meets Sidney, stops noticing all these gorgeous women hitting on him. It’s so funny. I’m not explaining this well, but trust me when I say it’s awesome and you should read It Happened One Wedding so you can read all about it.

I listened to It Happened One Wedding on audio, and the narrator was great. Karen White narrates a number of contemporary romance novels, and she’s very good at it. There are lots of sassy characters, too, in It Happened One Wedding, and White expresses that just perfectly.

I cannot recommend It Happened One Wedding enough. It has everything! Lots of chemistry, a smart, intelligent, strong and sassy heroine, a sexy and strong hero, and lots of laugh. Julie James is a new favorite author, right up there with Jill Shalvis, Bella Andre and Lori Foster.

I’ve read most of her books but this is one I haven’t picked up just yet. I need to though along with her latest. That’s exciting that your 1st Julie James book was a huge success. I love romances that are antagonistic and then turn into more eventually, but first with friendship. It always makes for some really fun banter too.
I’ve gotten back into listening to audiobooks so I might have to add this to my wish list!
    Lovely review, Quinn.

If you love romances that start off with antagonistic and moves to something special, then Julie James is an author you have to read! And she has lots of banter! I highly recommend the audiobook, too. This one is my favorite of hers that I’ve read so far (I’ve read 4).

Is it bad that I want to read this because the main characters are named Sidney and Vaughn and that remind me of Alias? LOL. Anyways, I’m a huge sucker for hate to love romances! And the fact that she asks him for advice on dates cracks me up! You have me convinced. I need to read this.

Ha! Oh my gosh, that’s right. I loved Alias! Especially the first couple seasons. I think you would really like this. The dating advice is too adorable. Seriously!

This sounds fun and Julie James is an author I’ve really been wanting to try! I love the sound of Sidney. I always enjoy when the main characters don’t start out really liking each other but then they become friends and the author makes it seem believable. This is definitely on my TBR! Great review!

I think you’d really like this. Sidney and Vaughn do not get off to a great start, but pretty soon they are friends . . . and then more. And it does feel believable. And there is so much banter and Sidney is full of sass.

I still haven’t read a Julie James novel yet! But It Happened One Wedding does sound quite delightful. I’m always a sucker for hate-to-love romances, and I’m delighted to have read a little more about the plot in your review. Perhaps I’ll have to check this out!
