Friday Check-In – Geekerella by Ashley Poston

I decided to join a few memes for a Friday blog post (I love checking out Katherine’s posts each week!). I’m participating in the Book Blogger Hop (answering a given question each week), Book Beginnings on Fridays, and the Friday 56 (sharing the first line, and something from either page 56, or 56% of the book I’m currently reading). Click the links to check out these fun posts.

The Book Blogger Hop Question of the Week:

If you could meet one author, dead or alive, who would it be?

My Answer: Oh my gosh, this is so difficult. I think I would have to go with Jane Austen. Pride and Prejudice is my favorite book, and since she passed away years and years ago, I would love to actually get a chance to meet her. That said, I would be so nervous, I doubt I would say two words.

Book Beginnings on Fridays and the Friday 56

First line:

“The stepmonster is at it again.”

My Thoughts: It’s short, but I think it does really set the tone of the book. It’s a Cinderella retelling, so anyone picking up this book will have a good idea about what’s going on.

Page 56:

“What I want is an Orange Crush. It’s my one and only kryptonite, diet or no diet. One of these floors has to have a soda machine, and even a walk down the hall beats being holed up in a hotel room.”

This quote is from Darien’s POV. He’s chilling out in a hotel room, thinking about how much he wants a soda, even if he’s supposed to be on a diet to keep his figure top notch for his acting career.

Thoughts on the book so far: I’m only about 20 pages past this spot, but I’m enjoying the book. I haven’t been really into YA lately, but this is cute.

That’s a clever word-play title! Jane Austen…. Gosh – I can honestly only do Jane Austen in audio versions. Don’t know why, because I actually love the classics!

I LOVE Jane Austen, but I understand. It always takes me a bit to fall into the flow of the language. It’s so different from how people speak nowadays.

Geekerella sounds so fun – I need to add that to my TBR list. I like the idea of doing a few Friday memes – it’s a good way to keep things fresh than just doing the one meme.

I am not sure I would be able to say two words either! I would love to meet Jane Austen. I wonder what she would think if she knew the influence her writing has had on us today. Oo! Geekerella sounds like a lot fun to read. Thank you for sharing! I hope you have a wonderful week.

Austen is a great pick! I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t be able to say a word to really any author I met. I think it’d mostly be hand flapping and nodding. I’ve been seeing Geekerella everywhere and I’m really curious about it. So glad you’re joining this meme!
