May 2017 Recap and What’s Next for June

This is my second recap this  year. I don’t usually put together monthly recaps for my blog, but I have a few things to mention.

Reading Funk Continues

This year has been a tough one for me reading wise (and other areas, too, but I won’t go into it here). For the whole year I’ve been in this weird reading funk, and now I seem to have slipped all the way into a reading slump. I haven’t read a book in more than 2 weeks. In fact, the last book I finished was on May 14th. And now it is May 30th, and I still haven’t read anything. In fact, I’ve only read 6 books this month. Six! Normally I read at least twice that. This is reflected in my Goodreads Reading Challenge. I’m 6 books behind.

I have to admit that I haven’t really been wanting to read. I’ve been listening to a ton of podcasts (which has been awesome) but that has really cut into my reading time. Not to mention that I have been into zoning out and watching YouTube.

I’ve also been feeling a bit under the weather. I was hit pretty badly with seasonal allergies this year, and my sinuses are killing me. Seriously, last weekend I my back teeth hurt so much. All this is to say that I am so behind in writing my reviews for the blog.

A Short Hiatus

So, I think I’m going to take a little break. Most likely slightly more than a week. I’m planning on being back on Monday June 12, but if I’m still struggling I may push it back until Monday, June 19. I love blogging, and have absolutely no plan to stop, but I have so much on my mind that a little break might help me.

I’m planning on catching up on things, and to, hopefully, get out of this stupid reading slump. I want to get all my reviews written, plus some posts on podcasts as well. While blogging has never felt like a chore, it does take time and effort. I think not having to devote time to it for a week or two will help me get out of this funk.

I will still be visiting blogs and reading posts (although perhaps not as frequently), but I won’t be publishing anything new until June 12th at the earliest.

Sorry to hear about that, hon. I’m not feeling well as well and just got back from the doctor. Take your time off blogging. Do what you need to do and then come back when you feel like blogging again. I hope you’re getting better, hon. Have a wonderful week! 😊

I think most bloggers know where you’re coming from. Blogging doesn’t feel like a chore but it can feel like an obligation sometimes. Your readers will still be here waiting for you. 🙂 It probably also doesn’t help that most of your reads for May were 3 stars for you. Reading slumps (true reading slumps) are hard work to bust. I hope your hiatus gives you the break that you need. Don’t force yourself to do something you’re struggling with or it will only make it worse. 🙁 Take care of you! Enjoy your time away. We’ll be here!

I’m sure many bloggers have felt like this before, too. It has been a struggle with finding books that I love this year. Last year was amazing, and I found so many that I loved, but this year . . . well obviously noy.

I’m with you on slumping this whole year. I’m currently 10 books behind according to GR. 🙁
    Happy June!

This year seems to be a hard reading year for a lot bloggers that I follow (myself included). Maybe a break is needed. I’ll be here when you get back, reading all of your reviews and posts so take the time you need and I hope you get better, Quinn!

  5. Charlene @ Bookish Whimsy

A break is sometimes very necessary! I hope it will be very beneficial for you, and you’ll come back rejuvenated. Podcasts have really eaten into my reading time as well, but there are so many new ones to explore. 🙂 Hope your allergies get better too!

  6. Katherine @ I Wish I Lived in a Library

Enjoy your break! I’ve noticed when I’m really stressed or have a lot of things going the last thing I want to do is read or if I am reading the only thing that interests me is rereads. I think my brain just gets tired and it sounds like you’re in the same boat. I hope you get a little of your reading mojo back and you’re able to put the slump behind you. I’m especially glad you’re not quitting!

Hope you feel better, Quinn. With all of those 3 star reviews, I can see why a slump would start, too. Hope you can rest up & get some peace. Best wishes!

Bummer about the slump, but if you have some Real Life stuff going down and the allergies then it makes sense that you struggle to focus on a book. Hopefully your break will help you get your mojo back, but no sweat if you need more time. 🙂 Wishing you well, Quinn!

I’m so sorry for your reading slump. It’s so hard when you’re a reader to not be able to find anything that sparks your interest. Sorry to hear about your allergies, too. This can be a real pain.

Enjoy your break, and we’ll see you soon! 🙂

  10. Lover Of Romance

Oh hun, I am so sorry to hear that. I just came back from one, and it really sucked for a while since only my old favorites were books I was even mildly interested in. I hope you get back in the reading jam, relax and have some fun. Take your time though, I definitely understand. Kisses and hugs.

Thanks for the encouragement! I have actually read a few books and really enjoyed them. Still not quite up to my normal reading levels, but it’s improving. Not blogging as helped. I love it, and it wasn’t like I didn’t want to blog, but I have been so short on time. So the time that is freed up has helped. I’m even thinking of taking one more week, but I can’t decide.

Reading slumps are the worst. You were smart to take a break. Aren’t audiobooks cutting it either? That is what got me through mine. Looking forward to your return!

Audiobooks usually help me a lot with reading slumps as well. However they aren’t really working for me right now. I think a huge reason is that I have gotten so into podcasts. I end up wanting to listen to podcasts instead of audiobooks.
