Mid Year Book Freak Out Tag

A Look at What I’ve Been Reading This Year

I saw this tag on Youtube, and just had to participate. It’s a good way for me to see how this year’s reading is going so far.

1. Best book you’ve read so far in 2017

girl with the make believe husband julia quinn

Picking on is kind of impossible. Recently I read The Girl with the Make-Believe Husband by Julia Quinn and I LOVED it!

2. Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2017

pretty face lucy parker

I don’t read series often. Well, I read romance series, but they are more like companion books. But my favorite this year was Pretty Face by Lucy Parker.

3. New release you haven’t read yet, but want to

devil in spring lisa kleypas

Devil in Spring by Lisa Kleypas. Why I keep dragging my feet reading this books, I have no idea. But I have heard amazing things!

4. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year

The Duchess Deal tessa Dare

The Duchess Deal by Tessa Dare

5. Biggest disappointment

Just One Touch by Maya Banks
I love her historicals, but this one really didn’t work for me.

6. Biggest surprise

love thy enemy Katie reus

Love Thy Enemy by Katie Reus
For some reason I thought I wouldn’t like this, but I loved it.

7. Favorite new author. (Debut or new to you)

Hidden Hearts Olivia Dade

Olivia Dade
I’ve only read one of her books, Hidden Hearts, but I loved it. I can’t wait to read more from this series.

8. Newest fictional crush

girl with the make believe husband julia quinn

Edward Rokesby from The Girl with the Make-Believe Husband by Julia Quinn
He is everything I want a romance hero to be.

9. Newest favorite character

Hidden Hearts Olivia Dade

Mary Higgs from Hidden Hearts by Olivia Dade

10. Book that made you cry

I’ve read mostly romances, and not ones that make me weepy. But Born a Crime by Trevor Noah had some very serious discussions, and while it didn’t make me cry, it made me sad.

11. Book that made you happy

chasing christmas eve jill shalvis

Chasing Christmas Eve by Jill Shalvis

12. Favorite book to film adaptation you saw this year

Beauty and the Beast was amazing. Not exactly book to film, but I’m going with it! I haven’t really seen a ton of movies this year. I loved Wonder Woman, too, but I’ve never actually read the comics.

13. Favorite review you’ve written this year

No idea! I’m skipping this one.

14. Most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year (or received)

devil in spring lisa kleypas

I love my copy of Devil in Spring by Lisa Kleypas
Girls in pretty dresses always work for me.

15. What books do you need to read by the end of the year?

Haha. So many! Honestly, too many to list. I do want to read The Duchess Deal by Tessa Dare, Devil in Spring by Lisa Kleypas, An Extraordinary Union by Alyssa Cole, and about a billion more. I’m a big mood reader, so I don’t really have books that I need to read by a specific date.

YES! I loooved The Girl with the Believe Husband, so I’m thrilled that it’s one of your top reads of the year. I also adored Pretty Face, and just want to read more words by Lucy Parker forever and ever.
I think you’re going to adore Devil in Spring, but omg, Quinn! What are you waiting for???? I want to shake you by the shoulders! You’re going to adore the Tessa Dare too. It has a bit of a Beauty & The Beast Vibe to it. 🙂

Seriously The Girl with the Make-Believe Husband was just amazing! I saw some people who are frustrated with Cecelia for not telling Edward sooner, and although normally I dislike the whole secret plot line, I totally understood where Cecelia was coming from.

And seriously, there needs to be more Lucy Parker books!!

I know I need to get my act together and read Devil in Spring. Shame on me! So glad to hear that Tessa Dare’s book is fantastic. Can’t wait to read it.

I have only tried Banks contemporaries and nope, not for me at all. I lovedQuinn’ss book and have Dares to read soon. I had Pretty Face in my pile but a few negative reviews had me pushing further down the pile, hmm I should bump it back up and see for myself.

  3. Sharlene Wegner

I loved Devil in Spring! I have the Julia Quinn book, but I didn’t read last year’s Because of Miss Bridgerton – should I read that first? I loved Act Like It, so I am sure I will love Pretty Face. Tessa’s and Jill’s books will be mine when they come out, too! I just read a really good novella by Anna Campbell called Catching Captain Nash.

I have heard such amazing things for Devil in Spring, which is saying something because I think everyone’s expectations were so high.

I don’t think you have to read Because of Miss Bridgerton to enjoy The Girl with the Make Believe Husband. The only overlap is that they heard that Edward is missing in America and are worried about him. I liked Miss Bridgerton but I LOVED Husband. LOVED!

That last question is a killer! I want to read them all! I love the cover Devil in Spring. I’m a big fan of pretty dresses and the colors on that one are particularly gorgeous. I’m so glad to see the Julia Quinn made your best list! I’m so behind on her books and I think part of the reason why is because I’m stalling – afraid that they won’t live up to my expectations!

  5. Lover Of Romance

Great book tag!!! Hope you don’t mind, but I decided to participate in this one as well. I did enjoy the hero in Julia Quinn’s new book. And Devil in Spring is fantastic—I just can’t wait until you pick that one up. And isn’t the cover for Duchess Deal so pretty!!!

  6. Angie @ Ba_BAMB

I’ve seen a lot of love for Lucy Parker’s books. I really need to give her a go.

I’m with you on Maya Banks. Her historicals are some of the best I’ve ever read, but her contemporaries are a huge letdown.

Fun tag! Thanks for sharing. 🙂
