I heard about Tanis from one of Hank Green’s Vlogbrothers videos, and it quickly became an obsession. In that video Hank recommended the podcast, but basically said the less you know about it going in, the better. And I tend to agree with him. But I will give you a little information, and then tell you all to get listening (side note: make sure to listen to Tanis in order)!
The first thing to mention is that Tanis is a fictional story podcast. It’s the first fiction podcast I’ve ever listened to, and it’s totally amazing. Tanis follows Nic Silver’s search for this mystical place from lore called Tanis. He does a lot of research looking for Tanis, and as he searches, he meets some people along the way.
Although the subject matter is different, in a lot of ways Tanis reminded me of Maggie Steifvater’s The Raven Cycle series. It’s all about Nic searching for Tanis. He’s trying to figure out what it is, what it does, what it represents. It’s really interesting, too, because there is just enough information about real events to keep you questioning.
Tanis can definitely get a bit creepy, though, and sometimes I had to switch over to a lighter podcast because I was getting a little freaked out. But even though it was creepy, I couldn’t stop. It is seriously addicting. There are some many weird things that happen, and I can never figure out what exactly is going on. Whenever one thing is answered five more questions are asked. Basically, Tanis is amazing, and you should all give it a try. It’s creepy and interesting and very easy to binge.
