Top Ten Books I Struggled to Get Into Recently

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly event hosted over at The Broke and the Bookish.

Top Ten Tuesday

I’ve mentioned this a few times, but I will mention it again – This has not been a good reading year for me. I’ve been reading at a much slower rate, have been in some reading slumps, and have struggled finding books that appeal to me. So my struggle with these books can’t be completely based on my personal feelings, because I’ve been in such a funk. I’m not as bad as I was earlier in the summer, but I’m not back to normal. Anyway, here are some books I struggled getting into. Some I’ve finished ands some I  haven’t.

In no particular order . . .

your tempting love Layla hagen

Your Tempting Love by Layla Hagen
I so loved the first book I read by Hagen, but all the other books I’ve read by her I’ve struggled getting into. I did finish this, though, and did like it. It’s not a favorite, but it was still enjoyable.

Your Captivating Love Layla Hagen

Your Captivating Love by Layla Hagen
I just finished this last night. It took me forever to really get into, but I did enjoy it.

devil of the highlands Lynsay sands

Devil of the Highlands by Lynsay Sands
I finished this as well, but it is one of my least favorite Sands books.

Hollywood Scandal Louise Bay

Hollywood Scandals by Louise Bay
I’m listening to the audiobook of this right now, and it’s been a struggle to get myself to listen to this. And one of the narrators is the wonderful Sebastian York. I don’t hate this, and I will finish it, but I’m not at all excited about it.

ceo buys in Nancy herkness

The CEO Buys In by Nancy Herkness
I actually stopped reading this one. It wasn’t bad, I just couldn’t at all get into it. I might go back to it at another date.

I have read some fabulous books lately, though, that I had no problems getting into. Books like The Duchess Deal by Tessa Dare, Hold Your Breath and Hold Your Breath by Katie Ruggle, for example.

Aw, it’s such a shame that you’re having a bad reading year! I have been in a bit of a funk recently. Nothing has been appealing! I’m glad that you have enjoyed some books this year though.

With the reading slump you’ve been on don’t force yourself to keep going with a book you’re not loving! You’re not ready for that! I always hate when an author I really love has a bad book. It’s so hard to give up on because I know there’s so much potential but at the same time I’m hating it even more because I know how good it’s supposed to be.

I agree that its a good idea to set it aside if its not working for you and come back to it later. I’ve had several this year that I struggled to finish. They were alright books, but didn’t grab me and I wonder if it was me or the book at times. 🙂

I have only read Lynsay Sands’ book here. I enjoyed it, but it was years ago but I don’t remember having issues with it. But then again back then I could get into every book I read hehe
