He's always been a haven:For the lost. The sick. The injured. But when a hunted woman takes shelter in his arms, this gentle giant swears he'll do more than heal her battered spirit―he'll defend her with his life.
K9 Officer Otto Gunnersen always had a soft spot for anyone in need. As Monroe's very own Dr. Doolittle, he dedicates himself to rehabilitating the injured souls that cross his path―but for all his big heart, he's never been in love.

Until he meets Sarah Clifton's haunted eyes. Until he realizes he'll do anything to save her.

All Sarah wants is to escape a life caught between ambitious crime families, but there's no outrunning her past. Her power-mad brother would hunt her to the ends of the earth...but he'd never expect Sarah to fight back. With Otto and the whole of Monroe, Colorado by her side, Sarah's finally ready to face whatever comes her way.

It's time to take a stand.

I’ve said this before, but I am going to say it again, Katie Ruggle writes the best kind of romantic suspense. After adoring the first two books in this series, I couldn’t wait to read Survive the Night, the third book in Ruggle’s Rocky Mountain K9 Unit series. My expectations were high, and I still ended loving Survive the Night.

Survive the Night is about Sarah, who has basically been the prisoner of her evil brother in Texas. He’s very abusive towards her, and he plans to marry her off to a powerful and evil family in hopes to get access to that powerful family. When Sarah is presented with the opportunity to escape, she jumps at it, and soon she’s living in the Rocky Mountains with Jules and her siblings. And there she meets, Otto, who is a police officer in the K9 unit. Both Sarah and Otto are drawn to each other, but Sarah’s life is still in danger.

Otto was completely the star of Survive the Night. I loved getting to know him in the previous two books, and I couldn’t wait for his story. Otto is a gentle soul. He’s huge and muscular, but he’s so very kind and gentle. He has a special way with animals, and has lots of animals that live with him at his house. When he meets Sarah, he is immediately smitten, but realizes that she is pretty skittish.

I loved Sarah as well, but I never felt like I got to know her as much as I would have liked. She’s had a horrible life, living with her extremely abusive brother, who controls every aspect of her life. Although it is terrifying, she tries to start a completely different life for herself, and I really admired that. Sarah is sweet and kind, and just wants to be free from her horrible family.

Otto and Sarah were so great together. Otto, who is so gentle, knows how to act around Sarah to help her feel comfortable. And in return she is able to begin to trust Otto. It’s just so sweet and wonderful. I do think the middle of the novel slowed down a little, but then the ending was completely page-turning.

If you enjoy romantic suspense, I really recommend Katie Ruggle. Although I recommend starting at the beginning of this series, Survive the Night is something to look forward too. The action is great, the character development stands out, and the romance is oh so swoony.
